A Hike to Remember

Prepare yourself for an unforgettable journey to Fikiada beach—this isn’t just a casual stroll, but a genuine hike through captivating terrain. As noted by visitors, the trail is laden with beautiful views that truly take your breath away, making the trek worthwhile. The allure of the journey is something that many have highlighted as equally, if not more, important than the destination itself.

Prepare for the Challenge

It’s essential to come ready for a workout. The hike measures approximately 3.6 km, taking most people between 1 hour and 40 minutes to reach the beach, depending on their fitness levels. First-time hikers may be tempted by claims of faster times, but seasoned trekkers advise a realistic approach, emphasizing that this hike requires stamina and determination.

Set Your Pace

The trail consists of uneven surfaces and rocky paths, so it’s vital to wear sturdy trail shoes. Many hikers, such as Sylvie Vanhamel, have remarked on the challenging nature of the trail, making every step an adventure. Don’t rush; take the time to absorb the stunning vistas surrounding the trail and enjoy your journey.

Essential Gear for the Adventurous

Carry an ample supply of water—much more than you might think is necessary. Visitors suggest that ensuring you have enough hydration is crucial due to the lack of availability once you reach the beach. Also, consider bringing along snacks, a hat, and perhaps even an umbrella for some shade along the way.

Stunning Sightlines Await

The trail offers captivating views that will leave you in awe. Both H Scott-Brown and Shawn M highlighted the picturesque scenery that envelops you as you descend down to the beach. You’ll find yourself immersed in a blend of lush forest trails and stunning coastline views—a feast for both the eyes and the spirit.

Time Your Visit Right

For the best experience, early morning hikes are recommended, enabling visitors to enjoy the tranquil beauty before it becomes busier, particularly with the arrival of boats around noon. Those seeking solitude and the chance to simply unwind should aim to arrive bright and early.

Unique Experiences at the Beach

One of the standout features of Paralia Fikiada is its coexistence with nature. The beach is known for being a more secluded and even a clothing-optional spot. This unique trait makes Fikiada an appealing destination for those looking to embrace both serenity and adventure.

Discover the Wonders of Snorkeling

If you are an ocean lover, don’t forget your snorkeling gear! Clear waters abundant with marine life invite exploration just off the beach. Several visitors have mentioned that snorkeling here is a unique experience, where you can interact with the underwater world in a peaceful setting.

A Thrilling Ascend Back

Be prepared for a rigorous return trek. Many hikers caution against underestimating the uphill climb back to the parking area. Plan accordingly for this part of the journey as it can take about 70 minutes. Reserve some water to stay hydrated during your ascent.

A Beach to Unwind

Once you’ve completed your hike, you’re rewarded with a break on the pristine sands of Fikiada beach. While some describe it as “abandoned” compared to bustling tourist spots, this makes it a perfect hideaway for those seeking relaxation amid nature’s canvas.

  1. First of all, this really is a HIKE, not a little walk. The trail is absolutely stunning, the whole way you get the most spectacular views! In my opinion you should do this hike for the journey and the views along the way, and not so much for the beach itself. Fikiada beach is blue and beautiful but not that different from the other beaches on the island, and it’s quite abandoned/boring.
BUT there are people stating that you can do this hike in 30-45 minutes, that is very much so untrue! At the beginning of the path (near an industrial place with the little gate where the colors of the hike are indicated) it says 3.6km, 1h20min and that’s how long it takes you. I’m 26 years old and quite fit and I did it in 1h23 minutes without breaks, I met 5 couples along the way and they all did it within 1h10min – 1h40min. So please don’t think you can do this in 45 minutes nor is it an easy path (it’s very uneven, lots of rocks you have to climb on and over, lots of loose stones).
Do bring a lot of water (more than you think you’ll need) and wear trail shoes since 95% of the path is rocks or stones (see pictures). And wear a hat or cap because there is 0 shade.

  2. 100% worth the hike. The last .4 miles a steep. Not bad but not an easy hike at all. Over all is 1.25 miles in. 35-45 min in. 40-50 min out. Bring water and I would recommend a lunch and spend a couple hours at an amazing beach.

  3. This is a deceptive walk first of all. It says 3/4 from the car park but I’d say 4/4 due to the steep descent on going to the beach in the last 1/3rd of the walk. It will take you 35-40mins from the dirt track road which you’ll take from the Vathy tarmac road.
Don’t even attempt this if you don’t have ample water for a full day away as there is nothing on the beach – the beach gets v busy by about lunch time with ribs and all sorts but at 8am -11 you’ll be alone.
On the ascent and back to the car park area it will take you around 70mins and be a tough climb back and you’ll need to have kept some reserve water for the return. I’d advise you only tackle this after 4.30pm mid summer. The heat and sun could make it impossible.

  4. Super beautiful beach, and cherry on the cake it’s a naked beach ..
Ok you need 45 min to go there through the forest, but it’s worth it!!! Maybe the most beautiful beach in sifnos

  5. Amazing beach if you are adventurous!
    If you go hiking:
    – from where you park you have 35-40 min walk, not quick not slow, but with comfortable shoes its easier way
    – park car or moto in the end of the road, it is blocked with a chain because of a private company
    – bring own water, food, umbrella
    – go early in the morning, because from 11on, boats start to come
    Clear waters for snorkeling!
