  1. We spend 2 weeks at the end of september in Villa Dimelen. We have been 2 families with little children and had a great time there. Beach right in front of the house, own playground with everything you need for the children, two kajaks and a lot more. Very good tavernas in walking distance at the beachfront.
Great sea view from the large balcony.
Dimitri, the very friendly owner of the place, took care of all our extra wishes and surprised us with a delicious home made Moussaka on top of all!
It was a perfect holiday. wish we could have stay longer! we are looking forward to come back one day!

  2. Stayed six days. Loved it. Great location right on a small protected cove with a nice beach and great restaurants nearby. Perfect location if you rent a car to explore but want to stay in a quiet place at night.

  3. Amazing place for a family holiday.

Villa Dimelen is a Cretan gem with Lygaria beach at its doorstep. We spent a week in the villa in August 2019 and we can’t recommend this place enough.

The property is on the first floor at the beachfront of Lygaria beach, it is accessed by stairs on the side garden and it has exclusive use of the side garden and pool. The front terrace/balcony and the garden have amazing views of the beach. The house is comfortable and very well equipped, with air conditioner in every room, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave and many small kitchen appliances and a big size washing machine located in the main bathroom (there are 2 airers to dry the clothes on a small balcony at the back of the house).

It is perfect for a family holiday, specially for those with young children, as cot, highchair and push chair are provided. The garden has a large BBQ, comfortable garden furniture, a playhouse with slide, bouncing toys and several inflatables for the pool that my children (5 and 1.5 years old) enjoyed. There were plenty of towels and beach towels, extra pillows, tablecloths and all the washing machine tablets, dishwasher powder, washing up liquid, etc were provided. Except a couple of nights that we went to restaurants, we had all our meals in the terrace. The views and the ambient at the terrace are fantastic, especially during the evenings. We spent most of the time at the property, and went for a swim every time we fancied and came back. There is a shower in the garden perfect to get rid of the salt afterwards. The beach is popular amongst locals and tourists but never got crowded during our stay, and it was quiet, including the property downstairs that is also a holiday rental (but separate from Villa Dimelen).

From the moment we made the booking until we left, we received the best treatment from the owner Dimitrios and his girlfriend Marianna. They arranged transport for us from Heraklion airport (including our request of a baby seat), they welcomed us with a delicious moussaka for the first night and a selection of pastries for our next morning breakfast (thanks Marianna!) and they even got a present for my daughter and son on occasion of my daughters’ birthday. Since they didn’t have guests immediately before and after our stay, they were very accommodating regarding check-in and check-out, allowing us to check in early in the morning of our fist day and check out on the afternoon of our last day.

Thanks Dimitrios and Marianna for your hospitality! We hope to visit again!

  4. We booked Dimitrios’s apartment for 3 nights as part of a 10 day family holiday in Crete and wished we had booked longer. The location is just gorgeous and even better than the photos suggest; a little bit of paradise overlooking a lovely cove and it couldn’t be closer to the beach. The place was quiet as it was getting close to the end of the season and not all the local tavernas were open; the closest, Sirocco, just two doors along the beach, was excellent and great value so we didn’t need to look further. The apartment was excellent. The kitchen was well equipped and Dimitrios had left it well stocked with a few essentials for our arrival, including bottled water, coffee, tea, olive oil, local honey, cereal etc. There’s just one shower room, which we knew about when we booked, so that needed some patience when sharing with 3 other adults and a child. The resort is off the beaten tourist track so was idyllic when we were there, but as far as we could tell there was no public transport nearby other than a 30 minute uphill walk to the National Highway, so you really need a hire car. The road from the highway is a bit hair-raising at first but quite good fun with lovely views after a couple of runs. In fact there are no nearby roads other than to the beach car park a few yards from the house so don’t expect to find the address on (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Maps – use the car park for the Eurodiving Centre. When we were staying the beach was a bit stoney in front of the villa but sandy a bit further along Dimitrios was a good host, always very quick to respond and very helpful. We had a lovely time and we would love to go back for much longer.

  5. Villa Dimelen is amazing. It’s located Ligaria Beach, so you only have to walk out of the front gate to be on the beach. The apartment has three bedrooms and can sleep up to 8 people comfortably. There’s a good size kitchen with a ton of storage and a dishwasher, indoor and outdoor dining areas, and a living room with a TV and fireplace. There are two bathrooms, each with a shower, and one of them also had a clothes washing machine. There was a small porch at the back with drying racks for clothes.

Outside there’s a pool with multiple chairs and loungers for sunbathing, a kids playhouse with a climbing wall, ladder, and slide, plus a built-in barbecue and a separate pizza oven. There was charcoal for the barbecue and wood for the pizza oven, along with firestarters and matches for both. We also had a set of barbecue tools that looked like we were the first people to use them.

The apartment comes with two sea kayaks with a pair of adult life jackets and several inflatable life jackets for young children, a pair of body boards, and a few inflatable pool floats.

Ligaria Beach is very nice. It’s a mix of sand and rocks that’s shallow enough near the shore for little kids to paddle around. There are a couple of restaurants, a dive shop which also does boat tours, and a small grocery store a short walk down the beach along the seafront. It’s about 20km northwest of Heraklion.

The only down side is there is no dedicated parking, and at busy times it can be tricky finding a space along the narrow roads leading to the beach parking area. The smaller car you can get away with, the easier your life will be.

The owner was very attentive, messaging us a couple of times to make sure we were happy with everything, and responding quickly to questions. I highly recommend the villa, and would happily return in the future.
