A wonderful place to stay. The owner was very friendly and helpful. He also makes the best raki that we had on the island. Rooms were traditional villa style and with a lot of character. Great breakfast by the pool. Very good restaurants near by.
First breakfast in Greece! What a great spread! I can feel the pounds adding up. But hey I’m retired! This is a great hotel in a super nice village. It has my stamp of approval and I highly recommend it!
An oasis of peace in a hilly mountain-side town. The apartments/ rooms are simple, immaculate and good value for money, the courtyard pool is a great place to cool off after a hot day at Knossos or the museums in Heraklion. Breakfast is also good.
Kitchens are big enough to cook in but the town has plenty of inexpensive restaurants.

Looking for a brief detour from Crete’s beaches, my wife and I stayed at Villa Archanes in a one bedroom apartment for three nights. The spacious room was really cool featuring a kitchenette, loft, and seating area.
What we enjoyed about the area is that it is very chill and did not come across as touristy. One day, we hiked from Villa Archanes up Mount Juktas. It was a clear day and the views were spectacular. All in, it was about a 7 mile hike and challenging. In parts, the trail was poorly marked. Bring plenty of water, sunscreen and a camera!
Similar to the hike, the 10 minute walk from town is not for the weak. You definitely get your heart and quads working after an amazing meal in town getting back up to Villa Archanes
On another day, we leaned on Vasilis, for help navigating area wineries. He booked a taxi (50 euro) for us and we went to Lyraraki and Stilianou Wineries. We made reservations in advance at Lyraraki which is recommended. Recommend going to both, which offer very different experiences and scale of operations.
The pool at Villa Archanes proved to be a nice haven for down time to relax and have a beer. And breakfast was a great way to start the day.

A great place to stay 🙂 rooms are super big, just like small apartments. Stuff is very welcoming and nice. Parking around is a bit more hard but it’s fine when you find a good spot. Walk to old town and center where there is many restaurants down is just 10 minutes and then back up the hill around 15 minutes.
Breakfast is mostly sweet super sweet for 10€ a person – good price. You also have everything you need in the appartment. Perfect stay for 2-3 nights to go around great winnaries around.
