  1. *Caution when Booking*

I booked through AMEX, which I rarely ever do for hotels (should’ve checked reviews elsewhere first).

The location is challenging, a taxi dropped us off in the dark and left (which was the start of our horrible experience) and we were stuck in the dark for hours until daybreak because no one answered the numbers listed. No taxi would return to get us despite many being listed as 24/7. Once the Sun had risen Popi showed up; she also finally answered after numerous calls and texts. Do not use this property if you will be arriving in Crete early!!!!

Popi is really nice in person, despite the unsatisfactory incident I experienced with my reservation and a refusal to refund.

The small quaint village is okay, it has AMAZING views. The coffee shops have nice homemade pastries and the greenery, hills, and “ole time” feel is great.

After an extremely horrible morning, Popi actually dropped me off at another hotel of choice (I chose not to stay at this location after such a horrible experience). She also showed me around the area in her car (at no additional cost). I guess you can consider the refusal to refund her reimbursement for the mini tour.

Overall this definitely dampened our Greece trip, but won’t define it. The location is great, on the outskirts about 25-30 minutes from the city in a small quiet, homely, quaint village with cafes and taverns. The hotel is not bad, stone walls, small entry ways- a mix of traditional with a few modern touches, small spaces with great traditional/original aesthetics. There is no receptionist or 24/7 support.

Note: Popi was very pleasant and helpful once I was able to get ahold of her, which was hours later; by then, I had already reserved a room in the city. Do not expect a refund- as she will not refund.

  2. Popi is one of the most nicest, honest and most caring people I met while in Greece. She continually goes out of her way for everyone who stays with her.

The Cretan houses in the Agios Mirones region are more than just rooms, they are almost like a mini resort, with full size houses and incredible mountain views. Its one of the most relaxing places I have ever visited.

The Cretan Houses was truly an amazing experience for me and I would highly recommend staying there if you want to experience Crete’s culture at its finest and also have a truly remarkable experience.

  3. Be aware of this house, they are swindlers! I have booked and payed (!) the traditional Cretan House at Expedia – so far so good.

However, when we was in front of the hotel, no one was there to receive us. I tried to reach the owner and he told me that we could not check in.

So I called Expedia with the request to cancel which the hotel did not agreed. Well, we paid a lot of money but could not spend the night there – Scam!

  4. Fabulous iconic house, local village settings away from the madding crowd .local people are friendly and generios ,panoramic views ,to dine out at the Ethimiko taverna serves food fit for a king on a pauper’s wages, superb ……highly recommended ..
