Santorini, with its iconic white-washed buildings and breathtaking sunsets, is undoubtedly the main attraction for travelers visiting this Greek island. However, there is so much more to discover beyond the famous towns of Oia and Fira. Just a short distance away, lies a diverse range of experiences that are waiting to be explored. From charming villages to scenic hikes and pristine beaches, Sun Rocks Santorini offers a plethora of hidden gems for travelers to immerse themselves in.

One such hidden gem is the village of Pyrgos, which is renowned for its labyrinthine streets and panoramic views. As you wander through its narrow alleys, you’ll stumble upon traditional houses, quaint churches, and local artisans at work. The village’s elevated location also provides stunning views of the island and the Aegean Sea, making it the ideal spot for a memorable sunset experience.

For those seeking adventure and natural beauty, a hike to the town of Imerovigli is a must. The trail takes you along the rugged cliffs of the caldera, offering jaw-dropping vistas at every turn. As you make your way to Imerovigli, you’ll pass through picturesque villages, vineyards, and charming chapels. The hike not only offers a chance to immerse yourself in nature, but also allows you to discover the hidden side of Santorini that many tourists never see.

While Santorini is renowned for its volcanic beaches, the nearby village of Kamari offers a more tranquil alternative. Its black sand beach stretches along the coast, inviting visitors to relax and soak up the sun. With crystal-clear waters and a laid-back atmosphere, Kamari is the perfect place to unwind and escape the crowds. Stroll along the promenade and indulge in delicious local cuisine at one of the beachfront tavernas.

For a taste of history and culture, a visit to the village of Megalochori is a must. This traditional village is a treasure trove of well-preserved neoclassical mansions, charming courtyards, and beautiful churches. Take a leisurely stroll through its peaceful streets, admiring the architecture and soaking in the ambiance. It is also worth visiting the local wineries in Megalochori to sample some of Santorini’s renowned wine varieties and learn about the island’s viticulture.

In conclusion, while Santorini’s main attractions are undeniably stunning, Sun Rocks Santorini beckons travelers to step off the beaten path and explore the diverse range of experiences that await beyond the famous towns of Oia and Fira. Whether it’s getting lost in the maze-like streets of Pyrgos, hiking along the caldera cliffs to Imerovigli, relaxing in the tranquility of Kamari’s pristine beach, or immersing yourself in the history and culture of Megalochori, there is something for every traveler to discover. So, go ahead and venture beyond the main attraction, for it is in the hidden gems that the true essence of Santorini awaits.

  1. Do not stay here! This property charged me $2,000 for a cancellation fee – make sure you read the terms and conditions. They have a very strict policy. I had gotten severely ill before my trip and cancelled 2 weeks and advanced and they still charged me 100% of the stay.

Completely unresponsive and uncaring for the guest. They made many attempts to charge my bank card for months.

Do not trust them! They just want money

  2. I had an absolutely unforgettable experience at Sun Rocks Boutique Hotel. My boyfriend treated me to a trip to Santorini for my birthday. Sun Rocks is located in Firastefani, just a short walking distance from Fira. It is in close proximity to many great restaurants, a market and many small boutiques/places to shop. Its proximity to so much makes it a prime location. We were able to walk mostly everywhere except for a few locations that we were easily able to arrange for transport to.

The hotel itself: We stayed in the Experience Suite which had absolutely stunning views of one of the top 10 rated sunsets in the world! Our room allowed for a wonderful experience, hence why it’s called the Experience Suite! The hotel has an amazing restaurant. Breakfast is included, but lunch and dinner are paid separately. The restaurant/bar is located next to the pool which also has some sun beds to allow to experience the views of the Caldera. One thing I will mention is the stairs. Since the hotel just like all the hotels in the area are on the cliff, there are no elevators. Be prepared to climb up and down appropriately 200 steps multiple times during the day. If you are someone with significant health issues that affect your ability to walk or climb stairs, this may not be a great option for you. Fortunately, I felt like I was able to burn off all the calories I ate from all the amazing food!

The service: The staff here at Sun Rocks Hotel is nothing short of exceptional. Every person we encountered from the moment we arrived to the moment that we left was above and beyond. They were all so accommodating and helpful, especially when it came to arranging taxis for us going to farther locations outside the hotel including restaurants and the port. I want to highlight Dora at the hotel’s restaurant Aquaz. She was personable, friendly and a kind/genuine soul. She was a beautiful person inside and out and really made our dining experience everything! I also want to highlight the young gentleman who worked reception from the afternoon to early evening shift. He went out of his way to help my boyfriend arrange a birthday surprise, including delivery of a cake from a local bakery which was absolutely delicious!!! Everyone really took care of us.

All in all, I highly recommend this hotel for any couple staying in Santorini. You will not be disappointed!

  3. We enjoyed our stay at Sun Rocks. There are a lot of stairs (believe 200 from top to bottom) but adds to the charm. Breakfast was outstanding. Staff was first class. Overall can recommend.

  4. The location in firostefani is beautiful . We felt best stay there rather than go to fira of you like things to be a little quieter and less busy.
Yhe views from the hotel were stunning over the Aegean sea. Wow! . The staff at sunrocks were amazing, attentive and friendly and always happy . Service was great. Would have been nice if the menu would have changed a little through the week but food was very yummy. The grace gin was great!. The room was clean, nalthough our shower was a little leaky across the floor through the door/ drain ., there was a coffee machine in room but no tea. And complimentary water was it for the first day unfortunately. The cave jacuzzi was lovely but I had seen pictures on the website and thought they were on all varandas rather than in the room . Even though it was still very relaxing but on the veranda would have been more perfect. The stairs!! Wow! You got to be quite fit ! Lol. But great exercise. Sunrocks was in a great location and enjoyed it all and so a few suggestions in the review would make it even better. Adora and Adonis and the breakfast staff were all Soch lovely people and really looked after us

  5. What a great boutique hotel. Location is close enough to the centre but far enough away to be quiet. The pool and restaurant area is just amazing.
The rooms are carved into the rocks so it’s a little quirky and occasionally a little tricky as head height is sometimes limited. The service is just perfect. Greek friendly but very professional. Nikos, George and Alexandros do a great job in the restaurant and bar. Get George to suggest a cocktail- he is a great mixologist.
The restaurant was the biggest surprise. We ate at some well rated places but for food, location, value and service this rated highly.
A great place to kick back and relax.
