Statue of Icarus as his wings melt from flying too close to the sun. I like it, sure it is rusting away as other reviewers point out but that just adds to its appeal.
The best thing to see in Agios Kirykos by a country mile.
Note: Stay in Therma a much more laid back and picturesque town.
It’s not exactly the most impressive of monuments/sculptures. And it definitely needs some rehabilitation. But nobody comes to Agios Kirykos to see this thing.

The statue is simply extraordinary. I don’t know why it’s the first thing I noticed upon my arrival on the island. For months here I don’t stop visiting it every day and with emotion every time I approach it and observe it. Nikos Ikaris has managed, despite the coldness of the metal, to give a very touching fall of Icarus to his death.
“Nikos Ikaris (1915 – 1994) was a Greek sculptor with the family surname Aivaliotis. He was born in 1915 in Chrysostomos, Ikaria. The statue is 17m high, is made of metal and depicts the fall of Icarus. The unveiling of the monument took place in 1980 in the context of of the 6th Aegean International Symposium which took place in Ikaria from July 17 to 21.”
