My fiance and I came here on our summer vacation. The hotel is beautiful and we were greeted warmly by the staff with a complimentary welcome drink.
The rooms are big and spacious. The maids come twice a day to clean and change towels and bedding.
During our stay, my fiance who is pregnant, and I got sick. The staff automatically ran to help us with anything we needed. The chef specifically made food for my fiance and I, as she was feeling lethargic and could not eat much. The waiters were all super respectful and reassured us if we needed anything to not hesitate to let them know.
The front desk staff was also very helpful in organizing anything we needed and were always one call away.
We could not say enough good things about the staff here, and are very appreciative and thankful for everything they have done for us. It really shows how Cretan/Greek people are also family oriented individuals who care. We will for sure come back here again, maybe even with baby 🤗
This is a brilliant hotel in many respects. Service, rooms and cleanliness are impeccable. However, the one draw back is the food which during our stay has at times inedible, mostly over cooked, tasteless and cold. The breakfast buffet does not fair much better, cheap thinly sliced cheese and meat, stale looking pastries and from the hot buffet, wet looking bacon, sausages etc. we paid for half board but most evenings we ate in the Old Town. The Old Town is busy, lively and is a taxi drive away from the hotel, unless you are prepared to walk in 30degree heat we estimated 15 to 20 minutes then get a cab which will cost about 6 euros. The infinity pool area is small and for the size of the hotel there are not enough sun beds, if you come down after nine all the beds are occupied. However, the beach is close by and sunbeds and parasols are free
Hotel:
I had a delightful stay at Minos Ambassador on the beautiful island of Crete. Our room was consistently neat and impeccably clean. The hotel staff proved to be exceptionally friendly and helpful throughout our visit. The rooftop restaurant staff, in particular, were incredibly courteous, and the dining experience was nothing short of fantastic. With the exception of the Asian-themed evening, the food consistently pleased our palates. While we enjoyed the cuisine, a touch more traditional Cretan fare would have been appreciated. Our room offered a superb experience overall; however, the air conditioning was not fully functional. Despite the technician’s efforts, it only worked temporarily. Despite this minor hiccup, our overall experience at Minos Ambassador was delightful, and we would certainly recommend it.
Spa:
The spa experience was simply heavenly! The full-body scrub left the skin silky smooth, followed by a delightful full-body massage that effortlessly melted away tension. The massage therapists were not only highly professional but also exceptionally friendly. The Aloe Vera body mask at the end was like a refreshing breeze, invigorating the senses. An all-encompassing and top-notch spa journey.
This hotel isn’t a 5-star hotel.
The check-in was very confusing (self check-in via Hotel-App) – took us 50 min. & when we finally arrived at the room we still had to wait another 30 minutes until our luggage arrived, the view was at containers in front of the balcony; there is no good working communication (the staff speaks only broken English/German); the dinner buffet is very unsatisfying when you expect an at least 4-star dinner (no description of the meals, low selection, taste is good but not overwhelming, prices for drinks are very high, no explanation of the menu); it seemed like a 3-star hotel except for the Junior-Suite which was beautiful; the opening-hours of the gym are correlated with the spa (opening late, so you can’t go before breakfast); the treatments at the spa were very high-priced and weren’t professional.
Overall if it would have been described as a 3-star hotel it would have been totally fine; but when you expect (and pay for a) 5-star hotel you will get very disappointed. You will see that it’s described as 4-star hotel on the old labels (like on the spa shoes,..).
In a 5-star hotel, the Ambassador, I would expect a little more. But I’m from a country where guests are respected in hotels, the Greeks probably have it differently.
We have been to this hotel once before, 2 years ago when the “ambassador” section was newly opened. We were excited then, this year rather more disappointed.
We had booked a room for 3 people. The first day, the cleaning lady made 3 beds and added only two sets of towels, I didn’t really understand the logic of the matter… the second day the same, the third as well… It had to be resolved at the reception. The cleaning was not done very well, there was no wiping, the waste basket in the toilet where the toilet paper is thrown away was not taken out…
The disappointment regarding the service was considerable.
At the same time, we left a nice tip in the room, so I was quite surprised.
The last and absolute outrage was when my wife wanted to pay the hotel fee last night and because she had taken a bath she was in a bathrobe and the receptionist didn’t like that and she had a big problem with my wife being dressed like that. I absolutely did not understand. This convinced us that we will not visit this hotel again.
