Discovering Meatropolitan Souvlaki: A Taste of Mykonos
Welcome to Meatropolitan Souvlaki, one of the most talked-about dining spots in Mykonos. Nestled in the heart of this vibrant island, the restaurant invites visitors with its lively atmosphere, delectable cuisine, and a mix of traditional flavors. As a tourist destination, it promises an experience that marries local charm with culinary art, making it a must-visit on your journey through Mykonos.
First Impressions Matter: Warm Welcomes Await
Upon arrival, guests are often greeted with warm smiles and hospitable service. Nicole Chapman shared her experience of being welcomed by friendly staff, which set a positive tone for her meal. Such warm interactions often leave a lasting impression, often making diners feel valued and excited for the culinary journey ahead.
A Mixed Bag of Culinary Delights
When it comes to the food, opinions vary. Visitors have shared their experiences of the offerings at Meatropolitan Souvlaki, with highlights including delicious chicken and pork skewers and a delightful haloumi salad. However, a common theme emerging from the reviews suggests that not all menu items hit the mark, with some diners finding the quality consistent only at times.
The Welcome Dish Dilemma
A signature experience that has drawn mixed reactions is the “welcome dish” of pita, olives, and tzatziki. While some diners appreciated this complimentary offering, others like Chapman experienced a surprise charge that left them feeling duped. This aspect highlights the importance of transparency in dining experiences, as well as the need for tourists to be aware of potential upsells.
Ambiance Over Food Quality
Audrey Mealiff pointed out that dining at Meatropolitan Souvlaki seems to lean more towards ambiance rather than exemplary food quality. As in many tourist hotspots, the allure of a picturesque location can sometimes outweigh the expectations of culinary excellence. It’s essential for visitors to manage their expectations accordingly and to appreciate the overall dining experience.
Price Point Perspectives
While some diners found the pricing to be on the steep side for the quality offered, others acknowledged that the location warrants a premium price. It often resembles the experience of dining in tourist-frequented areas worldwide, where you pay for ambiance as much as the food. It’s important for tourists to consider these factors while planning their visit.
The Call for Crispiness
One consistent criticism is the quality of the fries and other sides. Annamaria Urciuoli complained about her cold fries that missed the mark on taste, emphasizing the need for attention to detail in food preparation. Crispy sides are often a crucial component of any meal, and a lack thereof can significantly affect overall satisfaction.
Savoring the Ambiance
Despite mixed reviews on the food, some visitors like Euro Engineer praise the vibrant ambiance at Meatropolitan Souvlaki. The restaurant’s lively atmosphere, located in the center of Mykonos, creates a festive backdrop for a memorable meal, showcasing the essence of the island’s nightlife and social culture.
Service with a Smile
Visitors frequently mention the friendly and fast service, a highlight that consistently draws diners back. Reception staff and servers have earned compliments for their attentiveness, which can elevate a dining experience significantly, making even average food a little more enjoyable.
Navigating Menu Choices
With a diverse menu, choosing the right dishes can be a delightful mix of adventure and caution. While some diners recommend trying popular dishes like chicken skewers, others advise researching menu items beforehand to make informed decisions and maximize enjoyment while avoiding disappointment.
Emphasis on Local Ingredients
Aiming to deliver authentic Greek flavors, Meatropolitan Souvlaki sources local ingredients, which helps to create dishes that reflect Mykonos’ culinary heritage. While dining here, tourists can enjoy the essence of Greece, even if the execution varies from dish to dish.
Room for Improvement
Some diners have expressed genuine feedback on areas of improvement, particularly in enhancing food quality and transparency with surprise charges. Constructive criticism can often be a powerful tool for restaurants to refine their offerings and elevate the dining experience.
Promoting Word-of-Mouth
Despite the mixed reviews, Meatropolitan Souvlaki continues to attract attention, both positive and negative. The discussions around this restaurant serve to promote word-of-mouth marketing, which can be a huge asset for tourists seeking recommendations on where to dine in Mykonos.
Should You Visit?
If you’re planning a trip to Mykonos, Meatropolitan Souvlaki can still be worth a visit, with expectations aligned to the ambiance, the welcome dish, and the cultural experience more than the actual food quality. Dive into the lively atmosphere, enjoy the local flavors, and share your unique take on this modern eatery.
Final Thoughts
Ultimately, a visit to Meatropolitan Souvlaki encapsulates the joy of exploring food in a foreign land. While the experiences may vary, each guest has the opportunity to create unforgettable memories amidst the charming sights and sounds of Mykonos, and that is what travel is all about!

Girls were nice who sat us down. Caesar salad was average, smothered in dressing. However, they brought us out a ‘welcome dish’ of pita, olives and tzatziki. I said “we didn’t order this” and they replied “it is a welcome dish, free of charge”. We thought we had come to a lovely place. The bill comes and it had charged us for 2 welcome dishes amounting to 3 euros and then proceeded to ask for a tip. Sorry but no, we couldn’t argue as we had eaten this scam and fell for their lies.
We stopped here for lunch on our visit to Mykonos. The food quality was mixed- really average chips but a nice haloumi salad and tasty chicken and pork skewers. It’s expensive for what it was, but we figured it’s like eating in Temple Bar in Dublin, you’re paying for the location and ambience, not the food quality.
I recently visited the restaurant Meatropolitan Souvlaki and was disappointed with my experience. The food was cold, and the fries, which should have been crispy and hot, were cold and unappetizing. The cheddar sauce, meanwhile, tasted more like a bland mixture with no hint of the characteristic cheddar flavor. Additionally, the price of the meal was quite high compared to the quality offered. Overall, it does not justify the cost, and I cannot recommend this restaurant.
Escape! They charge you with a « welcome dip » that they just bring to your table without commenting you have to pay for it. The sauces are really expensive as well and they propose it as if it was one or the other. At the end you fin yourself with a bill of the most expensive street food I have ever paid.
The place was around the corner and the location is exactly in the centre. Service staff are very friendly and fast. Frankly, I’m not entirely sure about the taste, but I’ll still give it 5 stars for the ambiance.
