The restaurant itself was clean and quiet, and the food was delicious. However, the customer service we received was the worst I’ve encountered in Istanbul. The older gentleman serving us was unhelpful, and when I chose an appetizer, he said it wasn’t suitable for me without a clear explanation. His poor English made it difficult to understand his reasoning, and he rarely checked on us after serving our dinner.
I believe establishments like this should train their servers in proper steps of service and upselling techniques. The gentleman seemed inexperienced and made assumptions, making us feel discriminated against, as if he assumed we didn’t have enough money.
When I received the bill, I noticed a 13% service tax and politely asked if the tip was included. He replied that the tax was for “the table” simply because we were sitting there, which seemed absurd.
