Pebble Paradise

Characterized by its unique pebbly shoreline, Marathias Beach stands out from the typical sandy beaches. Visitors like Robert Szabo rave about its peaceful atmosphere, highlighting the quiet environment as one of its biggest attractions.

The Journey to Relaxation

While the beach is a bit challenging to access, requiring a walk or hike down a rocky path, the reward of reaching the shore is worth the effort. It’s the journey that makes this destination special, providing a sense of adventure along the way.

Snorkeling Wonderland

For snorkeling enthusiasts, Marathias Beach is nothing short of paradise. As Melissa Mertens notes, the underwater life is fantastic, and the clear waters make for excellent visibility. Don’t forget your snorkeling gear!

A Quiet Place to Retreat

With its relative seclusion, Marathias Beach feels like your own private paradise. Visitors appreciate the lack of crowds, making it an ideal destination for those looking to escape the busy touristic spots.

Footwear Matters

The path leading to Marathias Beach can be rocky and uneven. It’s essential to wear proper footwear to ensure a safe and comfortable walk down to the beach. Flip flops might not be the best choice!

Renting Comfort

Once you reach the beach, lounge in comfort by renting sunbeds available for a small fee. Although the prices are reasonable, it’s vital to be aware that the service can vary, as some visitors have reported less favorable experiences.

Natural Beauty

Marathias Beach is fringed by lush green landscapes, adding to its picturesque views. The combination of rocky cliffs and azure seas creates postcard-perfect settings, ideal for photography or simply enjoying the view.

Keeping It Eco-Friendly

A common concern voiced by visitors is the occasional unpleasant smell near the water. It’s important for travelers to engage in responsible tourism practices, ensuring that Marathias Beach remains clean and beautiful for future generations.

Avoiding Disappointments

While the stunning scenery captivates many, some visitors encountered challenges with local management. It’s crucial to read reviews and be prepared for potential service-related disappointments before your visit.

Family Friendly

Marathias Beach can accommodate families looking for a fun day out. However, it’s advisable to have appropriate supervision for younger children, particularly due to the rocky terrain and water currents.

  1. There is no smell of oil at all when we were here. The way down from the parking is really tough and full of stones. Better wear closed shoes and be careful.
Once down at the beach it is simply amazing! Really good for snorkeling!
The beach is full of big stones but you can rent sun beds if you want.

  2. Hard to reach beach due to the fact that you have to “hike” through rocks and a path with your flip flops. Don’t expect to find a beach bar there, there is a guy with some beach beds 10€ each

  3. I was also looking for a secluded beach, but all I found was a strong smell of petrol and the surface of the water you can see it in my pictures. I think authorities should do something about this. In fact, all island needs some improvement from authorities. For me was a disappointment in comparison with other islands from the Ionic Sea.

  4. Not so difficult to reach from the (limited) car parking high on the road, and in principle valuable. However, the oil smell and presence (you may eventually realize on your own skin) make it hardly recommendable. But what is worst is the guy’s management, whose rudeness was already widely and understandably reported here. In our case (family with three 13-19 y old children), he refused to rent us the umbrella with 2 sunbeds for 20 EUR claiming that, being 5, we should have at least rented 4 sunbeds (and 2 umbrellas, I guess) for 40 EUR. The argument was that plenty of sunbeds get broken by multiple use, like if we were planning to seat more people at the same time. Never experienced such an abuse elsewhere in the island. I wonder if this practice is normally tolerated under the conditions allowing him to manage the beach.
