This seamless transition adds a touch of allure to Mama’s Kitchen, making it a must-visit for food lovers and casual diners alike.

The Heart of the Kitchen: Mama

At the core of Mama’s Kitchen is Mama herself, a true culinary icon in her 80s who prides herself on creating fresh, homemade meals. She utilizes high-quality ingredients, ensuring every dish embodies the flavors of Greece. Guests frequently rave about the wholesome meals that are prepared with care, demonstrating Mama’s passion for cooking.

A Limited Menu with Endless Flavor

Dishes like stifado — a slow-cooked meat stew — are offered alongside delicious vegetarian options. Visitors appreciate the simplicity of the menu, which is perfect for those craving authentic flavors without the fuss.

The Catch: Timing is Everything

While many diners sing praises for Mama’s cooking, some reviews suggest that the wait for food may vary. Visitors are encouraged to order in advance for an optimal dining experience. On busy nights, the wait times can stretch, but the delicious outcome is often worth the patience.

Your Friendly Hosts: Mama and Lisa

  1. The food was good without being exceptional. The menu is very limited, which is ok and it’s quite cheap. Unfortunately they don’t have any kind of professional training and we had to wait for 1 + 1/2 hours to get the food. If the place is empty I can recommend it. If there are more than 4 people already eating, better avoid it. We had some constructive conversation after dinner. I think if you order the food in advance to get a real traditional and good moussake or pasticcio or other traditional dish, it can be great.

  2. Accidentally walked by the place, happy that we did. By day it’s a supermarket, in the evening it’s a good, small restaurant (terrace). The food is freshly made by Poppi every day, the sweetest Greek mama you will meet. The portions where perfect, not to much, not to many sides, just perfect. Daughter Lisa is helping her mother as a great host who has even better stories to tell. We will definitely come back!

  3. We just loved the food! It’s fresh, self cooked (Mama, in her eighties, cooks), fresh and high quality ingredients, and it’s all very personal. Since everything is fresh, not frozen and just warmed up, there are five different main dishes on the menu every day. (If you think about it – stifado has to be in the oven for many hours…) And if you order in advance, you get to make a wish, and you’ll find your dish on the menu the other night! Mama even made a special vegetarian dish for our daughter every night, that was really sweet. Our favorites were the swordfish and meatballs in sauce (sounds a little boring, but the spices and seasoning were just spectacular), also the big beans in the oven and the baked feta as appetizers, but we loved everything else Mama cooked for us. The place looks simple, no fancy Greek decorations, because Mama and her family put all their efforts in the food – but that is what makes the food so great, and that’s why we came here every night we had dinner in Votsalakia! The drinks are incredibly cheap: you can buy a bottle and take the rest of it home, if you don’t finish it, and the prices are close to supermarket prices. The main dishes were 10-15 euros, which is very good as well. Make sure you reserve a table and pre-order your food in order to get what you like, since the place is small. And check out the chocolate mousse cake 😉

  4. A lovely contact with the owners and truly home cooked food. You order (if you have specials you order the day before) and they cook. Everything is fresh, no microwave present on the premises!

  5. If you want to get fresh and authentic greek cuisine from warm-hearted family then this is the place to go. Advised to go to their store during the day and order for the evening from the menu they show- contents of menu change and it depends on the fresh ingredients they can get.
