The hotel is overall great and a must-go! We had a wonderful time here in a big Lava Suite π
There are 2 caveats, though:
1) Main problem: There is virtually no shade neither at the main pool nor at the swim-up pool for our suite. The umbrellas are standing behind/north of the sunbeds, what doesn’t make any sense because they shadow the floor. Because of the optics you’re not allowed to move the sunbeds north under the umbrellas They tell you it’s because of the safety of the guests while moving the sunbeds. But I doubt it, because requests of numerous guests for more shade have been talked down by the in fact very friendly manager. Here the hotel clearly has to change priorities from optics to skin health of the guests. For us, this was a major flaw that essentially prevented us from going to the main pool. I had the feeling that other guests felt the same as the main pool was often pretty empty. If you care about your skin health, the main pool is totally useless.
2) The service at the restaurant is nice and friendly and they consistently ask you whether everything is OK, but they are utterly slow at breakfast as well as during the day (40 minutes wait time in a nearly empty restaurant for a simple Greek salad). The breakfast buffet constantly runs low of food but they don’t recognize it for themselves, so guests have to tell them and after they fill up exactly what you told them but don’t fill up the plates right next until you again tell them. This is not 5-star service.
So in total only 4 stars from us this time. Happily both things would be easy to improve, so maybe 5 in the future? Hope so!
Luxurious feel, private, quiet and secure. Amazing location to unwind. Rooms were minimalistic but still a beautiful design with a small pool for each one.
Food really impressed with good selection at very reasonable prices for such a magical place. Everything was kept incredibly clean and the walk from the rooms built on the hillside down to the main restaurant and dining area had shaded areas and gentle slopes for everyone to manage okay.
This isnβt in the hustle and bustle of the main town, and also far enough away to avoid the drone of quad cycles used to get around the island. Great place for serenity and peace.
Lovely hotel to stay at away from the hustle and bustle of Fira or Oia. Absolutely amazing staff that cares for the guests and are easy to talk to. Also if you are looking for recommendations, Sara is awesome and will help with anything you need! Would absolutely stay here again.
Absolutely lovely hotel and stay at Magma. We went in October but still had nice weather. The facilities are all quite new and well maintained. We received a complementary room upgrade with our Hyatt status, which was a nice touch by the staff. The hotel staff go to great lengths to make sure your stay is comfortable and are helpful with arranging transport or suggesting places to eat. The food at the restaurant is all quite good, though a bit expensive compared to alternatives in Fira or Oia, so we limited it to just a meal on arrival and then drinks here and there. Though, the included breakfast is absolutely fantastic, varied, and filling. Just a note, the hotel is a bit secluded, which was desired for us, but expect to get a rental car, pay for taxis, or use the provided shuttle if you want to leave the resort. The shuttle only runs to Fira and the beach club a few times a day, so you would have to plan your day around those times or arrange your own ride back. In all, would highly recommend staying at the resort, especially as a Hyatt member!
Stayed in this resort last year and it was definitely
the worst Hyatt resort I have ever stayed around the world. Cold and poor breakfast. No recovery action is taken except from repeated apologies from general manager of the hotel
