This was such a beautiful place to stay, it is quiet, historic and charming. The greek salad we had by the pool was one of the best we had in Greece. Dinner was delicious. Service was top notch all around.
We stayed in two rooms and both were very spacious and charming.
I also liked that they offered complimentary water at the pool and in your room without using plastic bottles.
Village hotel is a great concept and the grounds and buildings are really well kept. The food at the hotel is excellent – the breakfast buffet is very generous and homemade. We enjoyed the dinner menu and had some very good meals. Prices higher than a taverna but you would expect that for the quality of the food and it is one of the reasons for coming to this hotel. A lovely spot away from the crowds with enough to do for 3 nights.
Spent two nights at Kapsaliana Village during a recent visit to Crete and absolutely loved it. We were looking for something that was not in a city and not on a beach, and landed on Kapsaliana, which had the vibes of a Tuscany villa. The property is beautiful and quiet. We stayed in Libra, which came with a little courtyard and pool.
Breakfast comes with the room rate and the breakfast spread is solid. They offer variety of cooked and baked Greek items. Beware of the cats that hang out around the dining area. They are a little vicious and will jump on you or claw at you.
A couple of things that could be improved: the gym has very minimal equipment, and a small mirror. So basically, it’s hardly a gym. I also had a massage treatment that I would skip next time. The pressure was so light that I didn’t feel anything. The therapist is also in the room when you are changing in and out of your clothes, which is kind of awkward. She never asked for feedback during the massage.
The best thing about this hotel is the dinner at the restaurant. The food is incredible. We got this lobster pasta, which was one of my favorite pastas that I had in Crete. One thing that can be improved at the restaurant is that the service is kind of slow. I had to ask for the check multiple times, and we waited like 30 minutes, before I finally got up to go pay. I have no idea why it took so long. There was absolutely no urgency on their part and there wouldn’t have been urgency on my part if I wasn’t so physically tired from traveling that day. I was just trying to leave, so that I could go to sleep.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the Kapsaliana Village hotel. If you’re looking for a unique property away from the hustle and bustle of the city and you’re also looking to get a break from beach resorts, check out this property.
It’s an OK hotel, but I would probably not go back. There’s not much to do around, and it’s very overpriced. They gave us the wrong room, even after sharing pictures and exchanging several emails with the reservations team. The best is the restaurant, both breakfast and dinner were excellent.
My husband and I came here for a few days on our honeymoon and we had the absolute best stay! The hotel is picture perfect, embodying the historical magic of the village while also providing a clean and modern boutique hotel. The surrounding area is simply beautiful and there are plenty of hikes with interesting ruins along the way. There is also a historical monastery, archaeological site and authentic villages nearby to explore. The meals are fabulous and the staff was very accommodating towards allergies (I have a quite a few). We had to check out very early on our last day, before breakfast started, and they had even prepared boxed breakfasts for us to take on our way. Watching the sunrise from our terrace and watching the sunset from our private dinner that the staff put together for us was truly magical. We appreciated that the other guests were mostly adults also enjoying a quiet, peaceful vacation.
We flew into Heraklion and rented a car to drive to the hotel but I believe they can also provide transport. The drive itself wasn’t terrible, however there are some tight roads in some villages you need to drive through but we didn’t have any huge issues. Other reviews mention dirt roads but that may be from a while ago because the way Google Maps took us was all pavement.
We highly recommend staying at Kapsaliana, it’s a true gem!
