The houses are EXCELLENT, very well equiped and very very clean! The location is perfect – above the beach of Nas- very conveninet for visiting some of the most famous and beautiful beaches and villages of the island and the view from the balconies is beyond words… Yet, the best part of the stay is Mrs.Popi!! She is the best host you will ever meet, unbielevably friendly, kind and helpful (and so are most of the locals!)
Important note: you definitely need a car – not only to arrive at Irida but also to manage to see the island, the distances are pretty long, there aren’t many (or any haha) places you can go by foot…
We had a great great time at Irida and in Ikaria in general, we will visit both again for sure! Highly recommend it!
This is a cluster of private homes up in the hillside near Nas Kato Raches, Ikaria. The positive aspects are that this is a private home that has amazing views and the caretaker of the property, Poppi, is so very nice. The negative aspect about this property is that it’s located about 200 meters (yards) up a dirt cliff side road from the main road. There aren’t any streetlights because of the rustic remote beauty. Therefore if you drive and aren’t used to dirt cliffside roads, be careful! On a positive note, If you’re looking for total peace and quiet, this is the place! 😊
Beautiful view to the west.. Breathtaking sunsets. Quiet place. Minus one star for the road (last mile) and the quality of the services offered.
Great place to stay in Ikaria
We were a family of two in two separate houses, we booked with Popi because there was actually nothing else available. The reviews, however, were very promising, the photos also looked good! However, upon arrival, we were still disappointed. Namely the location, a really dangerous road, the house was much smaller than in the photos… the beds were super uncomfortable. There was a separate stretcher, which I didn’t even dare to turn on. There was 1 bathtub, without a bath plug (so you cannot use the bath). There were full of ants, wasps and cats that needed to be dewormed.
Upon arrival we did not have access to the WiFi code, the other family only had the code. After waiting half an hour for the WiFi code, we had the code: But the code was wrong. Apparently, our hostess Popi had the code wrong. After an hour of waiting, without coverage, without mobile data, without access to our European family abroad, Popi comes to our other family instead of us. Then we got another code that did work: But it was very, very bad. And poorly secured. So we had no use for WiFi. I had a whining child, I had a screaming father, I had a whining daughter, and I had my boss who went crazy because of my bad connection. My diabetes app was also not working.
I thought it was way too expensive for what we got, we didn’t see the hostess once, only upon arrival. She started whining about the money again, and messaged us via WhatsApp instead of in person. She couldn’t manage it with the credit cards because it was done via WhatsApp, so we had to withdraw money. She also did not communicate with us.
All in all,
– Bad location.
– Comfort minimal.
– Insect plague.
– Overpriced.
– Bad WiFi.
Unfortunately we won’t be going here again.
