The hotel’s prime location not only allows easy access to the airport but also gives you the opportunity to explore the rich culture of Heraklion. Rosemary Ulyett, a loyal guest, highlights the hotel’s central positioning as “super convenient for overnight stays.” This strategic benefit cannot be overstated as you begin your explorations of Crete’s treasures.
Recent Refurbishments Enhance Your Stay
The hotel has undergone recent refurbishments, ensuring that guests experience modern comforts in a traditional setting. The updates have been well received, adding to the overall aesthetic and functionality of the rooms. Those staying here can expect a fresh and inviting atmosphere, which enhances the overall travel experience.
Dining on the Go: Breakfast Options
While the hotel serves breakfast, many visitors have chosen to venture to the delightful bakery next door. Hila mentions how this alternative was “great” for their family, showcasing the array of local culinary experiences available just minutes from the hotel. Although some guests noted a desire for more breakfast options, the existing choices are often satisfactory for a good start to your day.
Dive into Relaxation: The Swimming Pool
After a long day of travel or sightseeing, guests can unwind by the hotel’s inviting swimming pool. Reuben Diaz emphasizes that the serene environment, combined with a decent, clean room and friendly service, makes it a perfect overnight stop for those busy travelers who need to recharge.
Comfort with a View: Room Features
Guests can expect clean, spacious accommodations that cater to families and solo travelers alike. Cécile Chèze noted that the rooms are of medium size, featuring balconies that offer lovely views of the surrounding area. This added detail makes evenings on the balcony a delightful option for winding down under the starry Mediterranean sky.
Effortless Airport Access
For those concerned about navigating to the hotel from the airport, Michael Jewes shares that while it can be tricky with luggage, a taxi ride can save you the hassle and ensure you arrive comfortably at the hotel. The proximity to the airport is a standout feature, making transfers a breeze for weary travelers.

Hila notes that noise can be noticeable, even with the windows closed, but most found it manageable. These insights add to the overall understanding of what to expect during your stay.
Local Taste or International Flair?
Dining at Hotel Sofia has drawn varied opinions. Rosemary Ulyett expressed a preference for traditional Greek food over international offerings, voicing a common sentiment among travelers seeking to immerse themselves in local cuisine. However, the convenience and taste of the available salad options have allowed guests to still leave satisfied.

I have been coming here for several years and always found the same warm welcome. Not to speak of the super convenient location not far from the airport for overnight stays.
The recent refurbishment is a welcome upgrade too.
My only regret is that the snack bar has given in to the regrettable requirement for. Pizza and burgers instead of Greek food. But I still enjoyed a delicious salad.
This is a decent 3-star hotel within walking distance of Heraklion Airport. Our room was clean and spacious enough for a family of four for a single night. The hotel’s employees were kind and helpful. While the hotel serves breakfast, we opted for the bakery next door, which was great. However, there are a few drawbacks: the noise from aircraft was noticeable even with the windows closed, the air conditioner was weak (which is common in Crete), and the pillows were too soft for our preference (though this is subjective).
Friendly staff, comfortable rooms, good breakfast in the morning.
Location really convenient, close to the airport. A little tricky to get to on foot if you have luggage with you, however. If you have luggage, I’d recommend taking a taxi.
Would definitely stay again.
Decent, clean room with good shower. Staff were friendly and helpful. Like others who have posted we stayed here mainly because it’s near the airport and we wanted somewhere to stay overnight after arriving late and preparing to travel overnight, and it’s perfect for that. It has a good pool too! Heard a couple of planes, didn’t keep us awake though, nor did we hear noise from other rooms. The only criticism I’d make is that I would’ve liked to see more breakfast options, seemed to be a lot of sweet things, would have been good to see some fruit and muesli. I’m being picky though.
This place was fine and I’d stay here again no problem.
Very very helpful and kind service but the way to walk is quite unpleasant (sidewalks won’t do it well on stroller or heavy luggage). The bedrooms are ok, medium size with a balcony. The breakfast is good !
