The feeling that floats in the atmosphere of this place is unique. I’m thankful there are still places like this. I recommend! * the entrance to the monastery is under the cafe next door, but you can also go through the cafe.
Beautiful monastery in the mountains. The road there is quite ok so no problems to drive there. Calm and serene in a beautiful spot. Recommend a visit in the museum as well since the monastery has a interesting past. Visiting the monastery is free of charge but admission to the museum is 2 €
Amazing place. I would say it’s the only monastery worth visiting in Skiathos. Be sure to bring cash as there is no cell signal up there and the gift shop has some really nice goodies, all locally sourced.
I’ve visited this monastery many times since 1993. It has become an excellent place to visit thanks to the efforts of its local supporters.
As well as a small museum, there is importantly an active church full of beautiful icons.
The monastery has 3 monks.
There is a small shop selling monastery souvenirs and wines.
Outside, up a flight of stairs is an excellent, independent taverna.
Ideally you might want to visit by car, to let you stop off at various places to admire the views of Skiathos town from high above. However you can visit by public bus. There is a good service to and from Skiathos town.
Beautiful oasis of calm and natural beauty. We spent a lovely relaxed 5 hours here pre Stansted flight. Chickens, kittens, peacocks and 2 doggies, birds and cicadas as company. Free chess sets, free WiFi, amazing view and a menu that helped the last of the euros stretch far. (Toasted sandwich for 3.50 for example)Unhurried in the cafe part, interesting 2 euro museum combining history and religion and cool mountain air. Good spot for kids and adults and grannies alike. (Need to be able to do 6 steps up an incline to cafe, but easy and wide and so worth it to the cafe!)
As other reviews mention, the whole complex is cash only.( Baklava was 5 euro and greek salad and bread 8. Most expensive item was a massive blt and chips for 8.)
