  1. This is a very crowded church.

This church is in the middle of old town and that is the reason it is very crowded, especially in the morning hours. If you want to avoid this you should choose to visit it in the afternoon when the army of visitors is fulling their bellys with greek style food :))

The entrance in the church is not on the main road. At the main road there is the exit from the souvenirs shop. The entrance in the church is on the right side of the church, on a little street as you face the church from the main road.

The interior walls are not painted but full with pictures representing saints, scenes from life of Jesus Christ and Holy Mary. In the altar there are the remains of Saint Spyridon and you can see them if there is a monk or a father there.

You can take candles and light them and also you can write a diptych for living ones for health and for those who past away.

The shop of the monastery is full of products you can buy, from paintings to books, crosses and all kind of holy objects.

  2. Note: this is the “new” in-town church, that has been moved between the two fortresses, so it can be better protected. Of course nowadays this shouldn’t matter, but still, it’s the second of its name. The inside is cool, the outside amazes with how many people actually visit it. You can also use the church as a guiding beacon as it is easily seen across town while you’re exploring. It had some special meaning for me as it carries my grandfather’s name. You can enter from both sides.

  3. Cannot be described or explained unless you visit and stay for a while. Just sit at the back of the church for little, alone, praying, and feel the soothing atmosphere that the Saint has allowed in his home. It’s amazing how many people from diverse backgrounds come to the church to pray in front of Saint Spyridon’s holy rest! Amazingly moving!
