Mykonos: The Glittering Jewel of the Aegean
Mykonos shines as a luxurious retreat for over two million visitors each year—an astonishing number, surpassing the island’s own population by a staggering 200 times. This renowned island is synonymous with opulence and a vibrant social scene. However, Mykonos is more than just its reputation; it cradles hidden gems and untold stories waiting to be discovered. As the ideal starting point for an Aegean island-hopping adventure, Mykonos’s convenient airport and bustling port make it easily accessible.
Icaria: The Island of Centenarians
Next on our journey is Icaria, named after the mythical Icarus, who famously flew too close to the sun. Known affectionately as the "Island of the Centenarians," Icaria is one of five Blue Zones worldwide where people enjoy remarkable longevity. The island’s unique way of life—rich in outdoor activities, wholesome local food, and strong social connections—plays a pivotal role in this phenomenon. Urania, one of the islanders, affirms their lifestyle, highlighting the importance of community, respect, and support that flourishes here.
Women in Icaria play a vital role in the local economy, often leading initiatives like the women’s cooperative in the mountain village of Christos Raches. Here, they produce handcrafted goods from local resources, showcasing a commitment to sustainability. The spirit of collaboration fuels their success, allowing them to thrive economically while preserving their cultural heritage.
Sifnos: A Culinary Haven
Continuing our odyssey, we arrive in Sifnos, an island renowned not just for its picturesque architecture but also for its culinary heritage. With an abundance of restaurants celebrating traditional Greek fare, Sifnos is a mecca for food lovers. The island is home to many beloved dishes, such as "suffiko," a vegetable stew that embodies the island’s ethos of fresh and seasonal ingredients. Locals pride themselves on their gardening skills, often providing fresh produce from their own backyards for the family dinners.
Sifnos also features the tales of countless generations. Tourists exploring the remnants of ancient life in Kastro, a fortified settlement, gain insight into the enduring traditions still very much alive today. As vibrant and rich as the culinary landscape, stories of family-run bakeries and quaint kafenios add a layer of authenticity to this flourishing island.
Kimolos: A Tranquil Escape
Arriving in the charming island of Kimolos, visitors can bask in its unspoiled beauty and authentic vibe. Known for its laid-back atmosphere, Kimolos offers an array of mesmerizing beaches, perfect for relaxation. The island’s unique caves, once used by fishermen, now serve as quirky accommodations for tourists seeking a true Greek escape.
Andreas, a local fisherman, shares his passion for the untouched waters surrounding Kimolos. He invites guests aboard his boat for a journey to Polyaigos, a pristine, uninhabited paradise renowned for its stunning vistas. Here, Andreas’s love for the sea manifests in his tender care for the island’s shy goats, nurturing them with food and cherishing the connection formed over the years.
Back to Mykonos: The Energetic Contrast
Our voyage concludes back in Mykonos, the most expensive island in Greece. The contrast between its bustling tourist hotspots and tranquil, remote areas paints a vivid picture of this captivating destination. Visitors flock to its narrow lanes during the day, but hidden treasures lie just a stone’s throw away from the horde.
Vioma Farm offers an authentic experience, serving local produce just kilometers from the lively town. Here, visitors can escape the hustle and bustle, indulging in freshly harvested vegetables and homemade delights. The island’s craft brewers also strive to maintain their unique niche amidst the tourism surge, producing beer crafted from the island’s desalinated water, proving that Mykonos still has local ties worth exploring.

No wonder why Greece 🇬🇷🇬🇷 is one of my personal favorite European countries that I want to visit and live in somehow. ❤😊
Foodies paradise 😂 95% of the country serves solely Greek food 😅
omg
We greece!!
These are many of the reasons why I moved to Greece. More videos on my channel about life here.
Beautiful Greece!
Two comments- updates. 1.Captain Augustis, unfortunatelly passed away this year. I guess in his new residence he 'll find a way to sail people from hell to heaven forever and ever. 2. Kimolos is by no means an unspoiled island anymore. It looks like it compared to Mykonos, but the waves of hypertourism leave nothing unspoiled.
😂😂…a paradise for what?….for foodies.😂.Thank goodness I regulate my food portions.
Plus the old people there don't need biagra
these beautiful minds create and keep the land beautiful. Cant wait to be there.

Avoid visiting Greece in summer tho, so many tourists died this year due to high temperatures
not surprised why Greece was and has been causing economic crisis with this lifestyle…. luckily rest of europe collected their money to save greece… imagine danish work attitude and organization in this greek laziness
The next generation won't be so healthy anymore ! When I traveled there, I've seen a LOT of overweight people. That blue zone is really changing.
its all fake, please dont come. you make our lives unlivable
Good food and long life, are only for the wealthy Europeans and the global tourists that visit Greece. Unfortunately quality of life, is not for the indigenous population of Greece. Due to the local corrupted politicians and Germany's idealistic policies ( such as Wolfgang Schäubles), today there's no health system ( if something happens to you, you better start praying), and colonial working type condition's . But who cares???
💙💙💙💙💙
I love Greece and Greeks for some reason even though I am a Turk. People seem so genuine.
I was on Milos in August 2023. Trash along the sides of the road, overflowing dumpsters, trash piled up in vacant lots, feral cats everywhere. They tend to leave these images out of the brochures. Even the local church, broken tiles and cigarette butts scattered everywhere. In my town we would never alllow that. There were some beautiful parts of the island, but my enduring image of the island was the garbage.
Greece…. Ten lifetimes not enough to see all its beauty. Hospitable people and amazing places. ❤
And cozy 50 degree Celsius outside
From July 1, many workers in industry, retail, agriculture and some service sectors will have to work a six-day work week. JUST GOOD FOR the 1 percent, exploiting the rest. Poor GREEKS.
im in love with Greece. My personal favourite is Kos island, with it Vetratoria windsurf station and lovely Agios Theologos Restaurant
Go to Samos
This is an advertisement. Greece is very poor and these people are highly subsidized by those who pay the real taxes. This is FAKE. Who are the people who pay the real bills?!
Mykonos… all white roofs and not much greenery, 1:05 What a tourist trap, hardly enough space to even stand or walk by, but "A luxurious destination for the international jet-set…" Sure, they deserve each other. The hoi-polloi know where to get a much, much better deal.
Greek islands are overrated
Engels and Volkers approves this video
I didn’t know desalination plants were already a thing. Excellent news for the planet! Nice. Necessity is the mother of innovation.
⭐
The islands are nice but the mainland is much more beautiful and diverse
