  1. It’s a great hiking area. We did the loop here and my fiance surprised me with a proposal near the rocky tip of the island in July! We saw mountain goats, heard flute music coming from a little house in the area, and enjoyed the smell of freshly crushed oregano as we walked along. The loop is longer than expected! My fiance had made secret sunset dinner plans nearby and we ended up having to rush on the way back. Also, you might want to bring long socks and cool pants! I wore long linen pants, but even so I got huge scratches from the brush on the way back because the trail is overgrown. Wonderful spot with great views. Bring water!

  2. The hike from the town of Kampos to the northernmost end of Syros takes about one and a half hours each way (comfortable). The path often leads directly over the ridge, sometimes to the right or left of a larger hill, but you always have a wonderful view over the Aegean Sea.

The bookstore in Ermopoulis sells a good hiking map with elevation curves. I can highly recommend this, it’s a great way to keep track if the route is a bit unclear. It also shows various turn-offs to the beaches, as well as of course all the other hiking routes on the island.

At the end point of the tour, Diapori on Syros, there are also many very interesting rock formations.

Be sure to take water and something to eat with you. There are no fountains or taverns along the way.
