  1. Christine (the guest liaison) deserves a raise or at minimum a bonus. She made the experience seamless.

The hotel is lovely and it is the second time we are staying over. The service has dropped a bit from last year but nevertheless it is still acceptable. The drinks at the Royal are really good, the food is simply amazing. There is a lot of german tourists however who misbehave and act unbecomingly, but this is not something the hotel can fix. Highly recommend

  2. EDIT 2024: We recently returned from our holiday at your hotel, and we wanted to express our gratitude to the entire team for making our stay memorable.
Special appreciation goes to Katherina, who served us the best drinks, and Alex, the super cool bartender known for his top-notch iced cappuccinos. Their warmth and professionalism, along with the rest of the team, made us feel at home. We were particularly impressed with the strict adherence to sanitary measures.
The hotel’s location, especially for those seeking peace and quiet, is perfect. The ban on music adds to the serene atmosphere, and the setting in the midst of nowhere provides breathtaking views and tranquility. However, we observed that the facility, while lovely, is somewhat outdated, especially the furniture and air conditioning.
The two swimming pools are spacious, but it’s worth noting that they use salty water, which might not be suitable for everyone. Additionally, the early closure at 6 pm was a bit inconvenient.
We appreciated the airport transfer service, although it wasn’t clear during booking that it’s a one-way transfer for guests staying a minimum of 7 nights. Waiting for 6+ hours at the airport due to this limitation was disappointing, and our attempts to find a reasonable solution with the booking team were unsuccessful.
As it was our honeymoon, we had requested a high-floor room overlooking the mountains, but this request wasn’t honored. It would be beneficial for the booking team not to make promises they don’t intend to keep.
The prevalence of German-speaking guests was noticeable, from TV channels to buffet options. While we understand the majority clientele may be German, it would be appreciated if the hotel catered to a more diverse audience. The availability of NETFLIX and a later closure of the pool area would be welcomed.
Despite these issues, the room service ladies went above and beyond to keep our rooms clean, and the food quality exceeded our expectations. The chefs and kitchen staff were friendly, and the freshness and variety of dishes were commendable.
We would like to acknowledge the adult-only policy, providing tranquility and peace for those seeking relaxation.
While we encountered a few issues, we highly recommend your hotel with a rating of 4.5 out of 5. We hope that this feedback helps in continuous improvement 🙂

  3. So, let’s give the Creta Royal a fair review….

Firstly, in my opinion this hotel is the low end of a 4 star hotel. If you are seeking luxury, this isn’t the place for you.

Things we loved: the pools, the staff, the late checkout shower room, the gardens and the newly renovated rooms are clean, comfortable but at the same time, quite basic.

Things that the hotel needs to improve; bug control (the crickets woke us up a lot snd I got bitten 56 times in one night in the bar despite covering myself in replicant (in fairness to the hotel I’m not sure if this has something to do with the heatwave but either way, bacause of the continuous gardening, the bugs are deserved and they should spray like many other hotels do). My friend was bitten multiple time by a jumping spider that we found in our room. There is hardly any Greek food at the Buffett, the meals did give both of us a bit of an upset stomach on a couple of days. It was an average temperature of 36 degrees and we weren’t allowed to use our inflatables in the pool (only in the sea but for 5 days it was too rough. We found this really silly as there were only 4 people using our pool most of the time and we did offer to push them out if anyone got in), the sunbeds I think are new but they are rock hard and very uncomfortable. We saw multiple people having to strategically sit on them or they flip. It would be a nice touch if you were brought drinks to your beds….you always have to go yourself.

Things we really hated; the dark blue tiles by the pools (half of the tiles are anti slip and then there are rows of super slippery tiles. The 1980’s decor in the common areas (reception, restaurants etc and the terrible smell of sewage that greets you in the main restaurant before eating.

The hotel location is not ideal (we should of researched it more to be fair) as there is only 1 taverna within walking distance and a taxi to rythermo will set you back a €25 taxi each way.

If you’re looking for a good value hotel on a budget I would definitely recommend this hotel. If you’re seeking luxury that you’d find in a Marriott, 4 Seasons, Ritz Carlton etc this is definitely not the hotel fir you.

We wouldn’t go back as we need a little bit more from our very cherished holiday.

Thank you Nikos the waiter whom was a delight!

  4. A wonderful hotel for adults only. The hotel was as we remember with the staff making our stay perfect. This is the perfect hotel in Crete. Simply fantastic. A place where your stay will always be remebered. Super staff who are trained to perfection a ftiendly welcome and their approach to the guests is magnificent a wonderfull hotel.

  5. Lovely hotel, really clean, room cleaned every morning , fresh towels, toiletries. Excellent food for All Inclusive, varied choice, great cocktails not like some AI places. Lovely gardens with Palm Trees, Hibiscus & plenty of sun beds. Lots of space . Perfect location for beach, 400 metre of clean blue flag beach – Sea Turtles nest every year here 2 really good saltwater clean pools, pool bar Tula & Giorgiois are excellent, know your drinks ,friendly & all staff hard workers. Mistral bar staff fantastic as are main restaurant. Small market shops outside the hotel & bus stop directly outside hotel to Rethymno town centre. Buy ticket from shop. Sadly I slipped by the pool , dislocated knee & ended up in Hospital (still here) with badly torn ligaments. I would suggest matting ALL the way around the pool/ shower area where people walk.
