This is a truly magical place. I do believe that the photos do not do it justice. you have to visit to full experience the magnificence of this church. reaching it is not an easy task, but it’s not so hard either build upon a rock on the same. do expect to be hit with a lot of wind and occasional water during windy days.
Sifnos island is well known for its magical churches, but this one truly is something else.
Lovely Church beside the Aegeon Sea. My wife and I were married here on September 1st. The path is easy to navigate, definitely visit this iconic space below the city of Kastro.
An amazing church (1 of over 330 on Sifnos). This one is probably top 3 for sure, as the positioning and location is very desirable. Perched on a cliff and overlooking the sea on its own, it is well worth the stair climb down and back up again (roughly 160 steps). The church is typically locked which is a shame, but you can admire its beauty for the outside and take some pretty nice shots.
Enjoy a nice stroll through a tiny, tidy town as you make your way to the point. You will see some tourists (going the same place you are), but most of the people you will encounter will be locals. Walking down to the church is easy, with a nicely maintained stairs (walking back up the stairs will get your heart rate going). Your destination makes for great photo opportunities and that is about it. But the point is, you get to site see on foot and experience the Mediterranean first hand. You can also walk down to the water with a little effort.
When you walk towards this spectacularly placed chapel – you understand why it is the most photographed place in SIfnos. The waves hitting the rocks, the slight wind – the sunset – a must visit if you are around.
