When visiting the stunning island of Santorini, travelers are often captivated by the iconic white buildings and blue-domed churches that dot the cliffside of Fira and Oia. However, there is so much more to explore beyond these main attractions. One such hidden gem is the charming village of Pyrgos, located just a short distance from the main towns. Pyrgos offers a glimpse into traditional Santorinian life with its narrow streets and traditional houses. Visitors can wander through the village, stopping at local taverns to savor authentic Greek cuisine and enjoy panoramic views of the island from the hilltop.
For those seeking an adventure in nature, Santorini offers an abundance of scenic hikes that take you off the beaten path. The hike from Fira to Oia is one of the most popular trails, but for a more secluded experience, consider trekking from the village of Imerovigli to the ancient ruins of Thera. Along the way, hikers will be treated to breathtaking views of the caldera and the neighboring islands. The hike also passes through small, picturesque villages where one can pause and marvel at the untouched beauty of the island.
No trip to Santorini would be complete without a visit to its pristine beaches. While the popular Red Beach and Kamari Beach are undeniably beautiful, there are quieter and lesser-known beaches that offer a more tranquil experience. One such beach is Mesa Pigadia, tucked away in a secluded cove with crystal clear waters and soft sand. The limited number of visitors ensures a peaceful and relaxing day by the sea. Another hidden gem is Vlychada Beach, known for its lunar-like landscape and dramatic cliffs. These lesser-known beaches allow travelers to escape the crowds and immerse themselves in the serenity of Santorini.
Beyond the charming villages, captivating hikes, and tranquil beaches, there are several other hidden gems awaiting travelers on the island. The village of Akrotiri, famous for its archaeological site, offers a glimpse into the ancient past of Santorini. Visitors can explore the ruins of a Minoan settlement and marvel at the preserved frescoes that tell stories of a bygone era. Additionally, wine enthusiasts will enjoy discovering the vineyards and wineries scattered across the island, where they can sample local wines and learn about the unique viticulture of Santorini.
In conclusion, while the main attractions of Santorini are undeniably beautiful and mesmerizing, there is an entire world of hidden gems waiting to be explored by intrepid travelers. The charming villages, scenic hikes, pristine beaches, archaeological sites, and vineyards offer a diverse range of experiences that go beyond the postcard-perfect images of the island. By stepping off the beaten path and immersing themselves in these hidden gems, visitors can truly discover the true magic and beauty of Santorini.

We had the most amazing time staying at the Cavotagoo. It was probably the most beautiful hotel we have ever stayed at with the best service. Everyone was incredibly kind and helpful throughout the length of our stay. The concierge helped us book reservations, gave great suggestions, and even arranged to go breakfast for us on our last day due to an early flight.
The included breakfast was also phenomenal. The food was delicious and again the staff was so kind and great. Also great location with phenomenal views of the Caldera. Would recommend to anyone and would love to return!
I’m planning my next trip to Santorini for the third time in a row. Hopefully I will visit again Cavo Tagoo.
The view and the food was amazing each time, but we enjoyed the most the spectacular music .
The dj sets was one of our favorites. We were sitting on the porch watching the sunset and he “read the room” he played exactly what was needed .
It was a magnificent moment. Thanks guys for the experience .
So, I have this problem. My spouse has worked for the Four Seasons brand for many years and when we travel, it is often within the Four Seasons network of properties. If we have to stay somewhere non-Four Seasons, I usually end up doing the booking and it often turns out to be a big bummer… I know, what a problem to have.
After much research, I booked Cavo Tagoo for the last 3 nights of our Santorini trip, and I have to say, I finally hit one out of the park!!
First of all, I am writing this review truly in thanks and appreciation because I don’t imagine that Cavo Tagoo has any issue staying fully booked at all times.
Arriving at the property the hotel manager Manos and his assistant Semina greeted us as if we were old friends. We were given a WhatsApp number to message if we needed anything (Much like the Four Seasons App, but with a more personal feel).
We aren’t complainers but we can’t help nit-pick the details – quality of the sheets, bath products, pillows, scuffs on the walls, water pressure, etc. Much to our delight, Cavo Tagoo impressed in all areas. Plush towels for the bathroom and jacuzzi, Diptyque bath products, immaculate room, thoughtful design and a mini-bar that is restocked daily, free of charge.
The complimentary daily breakfast can be delivered to your room or enjoyed at the restaurant, and trust me, after a breakfast of this size, you can easily skip lunch. We were again pleased to find out, this isn’t your typical hotel buffet style complimentary breakfast where you get to root around through yesterday’s re-heated bacon with Covid infested tongs. No, at Cavo Tagoo everything is fresh and abundant, providing a very Instagramable spread. And the fact that it is complimentary adds tremendous value.
If you’ve read this far, you’ve seen the pictures of the pool and the view. It is all very real and everything is in immaculate condition. Nothing appears to have been “partied hard” in as is so often the case.
The sushi dinner at ROKA is a must and was fabulous. We ordered the pre-fix dinner with a perfectly paired bottle of wine by the sommelier. I’m not sure how the fish in the beautiful under-bar aquarium felt about watching their buddies being eaten though. 🫣 Survival of the prettiest maybe?
I will say one more thing concerning Cavo Tagoo and Santorini itself. After pounding the pavement in Oia, Imerovigli and Fira for several days, views are stunning and plentiful. What seems to be lacking everywhere other than Cavo Tagoo is privacy. During my research of other properties it didn’t mention in the fine print that you’ll be enjoying the sunset from your “private pool” in the company of 3,000 of your closest friends, tourists and cruise ship passengers, all clamoring for a selfie. Even at Nobu and The Auberge, if you’re at the pool, you’re on full public display.
Cavo Tagoo has that worked out as well. The property is elevated from the path from Fira to Oia, such that you are completely unaware of the passers by and they you. This appears to be true of all suites as well. There are no adjacent stairways with looky-loo tourists bumbling by.
A palace of kindness, beauty, luxury and privacy. Pure paradise is Cavo Tagoo Santorini.
My wife and I just spent our honeymoon at this hotel and I must say it was an amazing 6 days. Starting from the warm welcome we received when we arrived all the way to the final goodbye from the staff. The breathtaking view of the sunset was unreal. We were very thankful for the manager, Manos, his knowledge of the island’s restaurants is second to none. He lead us in the right direction for our fine dining experiences as well as the local taverns for authentic Greek food. Panagiotis was our breakfast and poolside server every day, he was absolutely amazing. Constantly checking in on us to make sure everything was ok or if there was anything he could do to make our experience better. I truly felt as if we were royalty under his service. My wife is gluten free and while this is usually an issue when we travel, we didn’t have one problem as he made sure she was provided food that was not only gluten free but also very good. Panagiotis knew exactly how to accommodate this allergy. His companion Giannis was also amazing when it came to serving our every need. There was never a time we had to flag down a server for another round of drinks or food, they were always ready. I was very surprised at how well the staff was able to speak English, coming from the United States we were worried there would be a language barrier and that was not the case at all. They all spoke English so well that you would think we were vacationing in the United States. I give this hotel experience 5 stars and highly recommend anyone traveling to Santorini that they must spend a night at this hotel.
Best hotel we have ever stayed in – amazing service, great views, comfortable rooms and fantastic food / amenities.
