Stories of Secret Worship

The catacombs reveal an intriguing backstory—the need for Christians to practice their faith clandestinely during a time when such expressions were not permitted. This historical significance adds a deeper meaning to your visit, shedding light on the resilience and ingenuity of early Christians in Milos.

Unique Geology

Visitors are treated to a fascinating spectacle of man-made caves nestled within volcanic rock. This unique geological feature adds an element of intrigue and beauty to the catacombs, setting it apart from other archaeological sites in Greece.

  1. Great little excursion. Beautiful view going down. Tour is pretty short. I wanted more history and explanation but our guide was not very engaging. We had to ask questions. Amazing how they dug these and had to worship in secret. Christian burials were not allowed under much of Roman rule…thus the catacombs.

  2. Review scoring: 3 as expected based on price, quality and reputation, ie as expected. 4 better than expected and 2 lower quality than expected. 5 absolutely outstanding in all respects against expectations; food quality and presentation, staff, decor and atmosphere.

Quite cool, dates back to 100 ad. Small area open but contains 300 family graves. Interesting man made cave in volcanic rock.

  3. 4 euro entry and there is a guide that walks you through and explains the history and information of the tunnel (we didn’t have to sign up). Very informative. Worth visiting.

  4. Quite interesting however you pay 4€ for a 10 minute guide and they rush you out because there is supposed to be another group waiting. We didn’t see any groups waiting to be honest but we still had to go.

  5. As a heads up, the hours on the website and Google are wrong. We came at 6pm and it was closed and the hours were posted on a sign, which I’ll include a picture of here. Google didn’t accept the edits, so I wanted to make sure people visiting have some way of knowing.

Otherwise, this is a cool but of history and a fun excursion for the price. I’d definitely recommend visiting!
