I’m writing this review with sorrow in my heart.
I have visited Cactus Hotel multiple times over the years and was always amazed. Unfortunately, things have changed drastically since my last visit.
A month before my visit, I called the hotel to book a room for a few nights. The receptionist gave me an email address and kindly asked me to send my inquiry there. Despite sending multiple emails and reminders, I received no response. A week later, I called again to address my concern and was connected to the reservations manager. She assured me she would reply immediately after our call, and she did, providing the rates and total amount. I replied asking to proceed with the reservation, but once again received no reply. I called back and was told my reservation was confirmed.
On the day of arrival, I contacted the hotel to inform them about my late check-in, only to be told there was no reservation under my name! They asked me to book a room via a booking website, where they had two available rooms. I did so.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by a receptionist who seemed lost. She gave me the key, and I went to my room. When I tried to take a quick shower, I discovered that there was no body, hair, or hand soap available. The wall-mounted dispensers were completely empty, and there was only one body cream, despite there being two guests. I went to the reception, and the receptionist gave me two travel-sized soaps, which used to be standard in the room in previous years. The third surprise came when I opened the fridge to use the complimentary water, only to find it had already been opened. Unacceptable!
The breakfast was good as always, but I noticed a significant shortage of staff compared to previous years. Most of the personnel who used to work here were no longer around. While I understand cost-cutting measures, they do not justify the increased prices. Our stay costed much more than the same period last year.
Sadly, this was the worst accommodation experience I’ve had at Cactus Hotel, and we won’t be visiting again. I hope things change in the future, as this decline will surely impact you. It’s sad to see such a beloved hotel deteriorate.
Excellent local and continental breakfast, functional single rooms (no kitchen) with the best view in Rhodes town. There’s a bar, pool snack bar and a well furnished minimarket in the premises. The desk service personnel, the hostess and the cleaning ladies are outstandingly diligent and friendly. If I had to find some con for this hotel I’d say it’s the lack of a laundrette, because the hotel’s own laundry service charges per garment as a dry cleaner would. All in all we had a fantastic stay and this was superb value for money. We’ll be back.
A very tired and dated Hotel . Location is great , views are good ( as long as you are facing the sea ) , pool area is good with good selection of drinks and food , with a nice pool , however other Hotels use it so get there early if you want a sun bed .
Some rooms are old but hotel is very neat. Great breakfast and very good location. Don’t jump to the pool it is only about one meter deep.
Unfortunately, I won’t visit this hotel when in Rhodes. Despite the fact that it got more expensive than previous years which I really understood, the services got a big decline. Will try other hotels from now on.
