The owner refused to serve me after I politely asked how he makes iced coffee. He was very rude and sent me away. 🤷🏼♀️ I didn’t understand what his problem was until I read other reviews where he did the same to others. Otherwise, the beach is beautiful, but after this experience I would not spend a cent in that bar.
Well, just let me tell you: it’s a very improvised, about 20 years old (early 2000s) place without water connection which is delivered by boat. It seems to be run by 1 man (Yiannis) who built this all on his own (at least it looks like that). It has a few tables and is very colourful painted and one of only two places here that offer shadow.
So dont be surprised you cant order much else than water, lemonade (3€ can + cup with ice cubes included), iced coffee or a “legendary” (really good looking and obviously strong) mojito, which i didnt try because its 10€ 🤣 he offers an alcohol free version of it too.
So be nice, respectful and grateful to this man and you can sit there as long as you wish and enjoy the widespread music collection he plays and the nice view on the beach. Including some goats, which show up from time to time to eat the used lemons from the mojitos of both bars on the beach 😂
I was there twice and enjoyed it very much and also had some conversation with yannis who was a very nice guy to me. I can imagine him getting loud if he feels disrespected but i didnt see any incident like mentioned in some comments 🌞
Amazing owner! Very nice mojito, the price is same as everywhere…. nice people and nice beach. Thank you that you make our stay much more better! I recommend to have shoes instead of flip flops, but people still get there both ways.
@ Mieke von Reeth: I can agree on the difference in tastes and flavors, but there is no agreement on untruth. This is not true. For 8 days, I have been observing people’s behavior every day since morning. Most people who come to the beach are nervous, strange, full of pretensions, resentful of the world. And all it takes is a little kindness. That day, the gentleman who claims that Jannis was unkind and did not allow his shoes to be shaken off with sand, I saw the whole scene. This “gentleman” after leaving the beach (for some reason he was passing through the terrace of the “Mojito” bar), stopped on the path between 2 bars. He leaned his whole body against a large stone painted with NEW graffiti advertising “Mohito Jannis Bar”. In fact, it’s almost sat on it, covering the content of the artistic graffiti for the group coming off the tour. This prevented this tired and thirsty group from deciding which bar to choose. Jannis politely asked the gentleman to get off the stone. equipment not intended for this – if you want, you can do sand cleaning either on the beach yet or outside the facility you are passing through. The pink “graffiti” path is part of the bar decoration and is an artistic creation. It pleases the eyes of all who come as well as the stone that has been appropriated by the gentleman.” That caused a nervous reaction, not that Jannis shooed away and wouldn’t allow his feet to be cleaned. It’s a lie. Jannis is a hard working man for his business. Decent and very warm. A bit of kindness is enough not only for him and his work, his work, but for the whole world and people. Traditional Cuban Mojito by Jannis is the best on the coast of Crete eaten in a dish with smoking cubes of dry, frozen ice, overlooking the Libyan Sea and all shades of turquoise, blue and navy blue. And the music oozing from the speaker is different every day. You can believe me or not. Regards You and my friend Jannis. Red Mario.
The guy is really not as bad as everyone is saying. But he is incredibly slow. Even by Greek standards:p and it’s not cheap! However, the location is fabulous! And once you get your drink, (the guy is spending 5 min on each drink, making only one at the time, so it takes quite a while) the mojito is decent, albeit somewhat different.
