I have not stayed at this hotel but not because I didn’t try to make a booking. The owner Mary did her best to discourage me from making a booking. In fact she flat out told me to stay in Naxos and refused my request for a one night stay to attend a family wedding on the island of Paros. Now before anyone reading this thinks it must have been my fault for the rude reception I received let me dispel this notion right away.
Mary kept asking me “who I was” over and over again at nauseam. It seems my name or my credit card was not enough to make a simple reservation for a one night stay. After explaining to her that I was from Canada, staying with my mother in Naxos and wanting a one night stay in Paros to attend a cousin’s wedding she continued to ask me who I was. As I didn’t know why she was asking me this bizarre question over and over I finally asked her if she wanted to rent me a room or not. Her answer was equally as bizarre when she told me it was better if I stayed in Naxos instead.
This is the first time I have ever been turned away from renting a room in a hotel and only because I didn’t know how to answer her question of “who I was”. I still shake my head every time I think about this.
Where I come from we bend over backwards to provide the kind of service our customers want and then some. We are Canadian after all. This is what we do best.
This story ends well however, as my mother and I found another little place to stay nearby this one with excellent service and a proprietor that was friendly and courteous and even picked us up at the port for free.
I can’t tell you what Mary’s Archondiko hotel would have been like but perhaps this can provide some insight into the owner’s mindset of public relations and serving their customers.

Great value for money!
The always smiling Meri, the clean rooms just a stone’s throw from the sea. This is our 4th summer with them. We keep coming back and receive a warm welcome every year. You feel like part of the family.
Also very child-friendly.
And wonderfully quiet…
Little space compared to the description. Less equipment. Spartan bathroom. Uninteresting decoration. The view of the sea and the cleanliness are the only explanations for the price. The path leading to the mother is littered with dog feces.
