Discover Naxos: A Tourist’s Guide to Car Rentals
1. Welcome to Naxos!
Naxos, the largest island in the Cyclades, is known for its stunning landscapes, rich history, and charming villages. Exploring this beautiful island by car can enhance your experience, allowing you to visit hidden gems at your own pace. However, choosing the right car rental service is crucial for a successful adventure.
2. The Allure of Freedom
Driving around Naxos offers unparalleled freedom, from the pristine beaches of Agios Prokopios to the picturesque mountain villages nestled in the hills. With a car, you can easily discover all corners of the island, making unscheduled stops along the way to soak in the stunning scenery.
3. The Car Rental Experience
When considering a car rental service in Naxos, it’s essential to find a company that prioritizes customer service and vehicle quality. Unfortunately, not all companies embody these values, and it’s crucial to sift through visitor experiences before making your decision.
4. A Bumpy Start
Many customers have reported troubling experiences with APOLLON Rent a Car. From misunderstood quotes to arrogant staff, these accounts highlight the importance of thorough research before renting a vehicle.
5. Confusing Quotes and Unpleasant Interactions
One traveler, Aron Galbani, relayed how a friendly quote was abruptly transformed into a frustrating negotiation. Inconsistencies in pricing, coupled with poor customer service, created a negative first impression of the agency.
6. Performance Woes on the Road
Pedro López advised potential tourists to seek alternative rental options, citing mechanical issues with the vehicles. His experience with underpowered cars, compounded by inadequate features, can turn what should be an enjoyable ride into a frustrating ordeal.
7. An Expensive Lesson in Repairs
Customers are often shocked by hefty charges for vehicle damages. Pedro’s experience highlights how costs can quickly escalate, leading to a feeling of being scammed. Always clarify what insurance covers before signing any contracts.
8. Safety First!
When renting a vehicle, ensuring it is roadworthy is non-negotiable. Mixed experiences, like those with Lorena Malheiros, emphasize the need for proper vehicle explanations and reliability, especially when navigating the narrow and winding roads of Naxos.
9. A Disturbing Lack of Support
Tragedies like accidents can happen, and a responsible rental company should prioritize the well-being of its customers. Unfortunately, some have reported being met with indifference from staff during distressing situations.
10. The Unsettling Reality
As vivid accounts demonstrate, some visitors felt undervalued and disregarded, leaving them with lasting negative feelings about their experience on the island. It’s critical to select a rental company known for its empathy and support.
11. The Bright Side
In contrast to the disheartening experiences, some patrons have enjoyed fantastic interactions with rental staff at other companies. For example, Mia Rapp emphasized the excellent service, competitive prices, and helpful employees who went above and beyond to ensure a pleasant rental process.
12. Enthusiastic Recommendations
Positive feedback can significantly influence tourists’ choices. Word-of-mouth recommendations from blissful travelers point towards companies that truly prioritize their customers’ experiences.
13. Exploring Alternatives
Before making a commitment to a specific rental agency, consider getting quotes from multiple companies. This can empower you to make informed decisions, ensuring you choose a car rental that aligns with your expectations.
14. Customer Service Matters
The emotional aspect of customer service cannot be overstated. When dealing with travel plans, acknowledging kindness and efficient communication can elevate your adventure from good to remarkable.
15. Seeking Transparency
Understanding the rental policies and potential fees associated with various damages is critical. Always assert your rights to receive receipts and clear documentation of transactions.
16. Emphasizing Safety and Comfort
When searching for rental options, prioritize companies that thoroughly inspect their vehicles and provide full disclosures about their condition and functionality. Your personal safety should always come first.

Very bad experience.
I asked for a quote and was given a good offer. The next day I was told that the colleague had made a mistake as she doesn’t speak English well (not true) and their offer was completely different from the one the night before in terms of both price and conditions. I also found a very arrogant and rude man. I strongly advise against it. Just look in the area to find better priced rentals with staff who welcome tourists, instead of making them run away as in this case.
Look for another company!!!
The car had no power and could not climb some roads without sufficient inertia
No camera or parking sensors made it very difficult to drive.
Manual air conditioning and very basic accessories. Not very clean.
Roads at Naxos are narrow, scratching the car is very easy
The best insurance offered by Apollon has 1000€ prime.
I slightly scratched the car, they told me that they needed to change two doors and I had to pay 1000€ in cash straight away, With credit card they would charge 24% more.. I asked for a receipt and they did not give it to me.
I show the pictures to a garage and they confirm that they could repair the doors for much less.
I don’t understand.
Amazing and kind staff. Rates to rent a car were far lower than surrounding areas we checked out.
We had a terrible, terrible experience with this company on the Naxos Greek island. We were staying in Mikri Vigla, and it did not have a lot of options for rental around, only them. We rented two mopeds because a lady rudely told us no cars were available. No insurance was available either. She just gave us the key and gave us a good luck look. She didn’t even go over how to use it. One of the mopeds the gas was on reserve. We should have listened to all the red flags, but we wanted to drive around the island to enjoy it since we just had two nights there. My friend thought the headlights were not working, and we stopped by to correct it. The “front staff,” if you can call it, was two rude guys who, when fixed the headlight -which was not broken, was just off, and we were not taught how to use it- gave us a judgmental look. But the worst part was that I had an accident with one of the bikes, and when I called the company to let them know, they did not care for my well-being.
The guy on the phone kept asking if the moped was broken while I was covered in blood. He told me to wait in there so they would take a look at it. We waited about 30 minutes while I wanted to go to the hospital. The place was 6 minutes away. When the two rude staff guys arrived, they did not even greet me. They kept talking between themselves and on the phone. I had to ask them to come and tell me what was happening since I could not move with my foot spread and ripped open. Then they told us they would have to charge 500 euros for the damage, which did not make sense because the moped was already trash. On top of that, the payment had to be in cash. Otherwise, they would not accept it. While my friend was looking for an ATM, I was in the store with them, and it was the worst. They were laughing between themselves. When we finally paid and could leave the place, I felt free, like we were being hostage if we did not pay. No receipt or anything on the 500 euros. Nothing. It’s a total scam. It was the worst experience that we had in our lives. Be aware.
The service was really good. Good prices and super warm employees. We didn’t have any problems. I fully recommend it!
