Because it is a family run business, once there you become one of the family. The rooms are spacious and clean. The restaurant has a great view and the staff goes out of it’s way to accommodate your needs. The boat ride to ship wreak beach and the blue caves is awesome, definitely a highlight.
We spend a 3 day weekend at Aliv Stone Suites and Spa. We stayed in a suite, which we shared with another couple. We had a fantastic time! Great rooms, excellent service, convenient location. There is a beach bar, but as opposed to other reviews, we did not hear any noise in the room in the evenings. We would highly recommend!
Really a great place! The appartment, the pool and the beach area are perfect. The stuff is very friendly and helpfull.
Only the owners are completly unfriendly! It seems to be too much to say hello to their customers!
What was supposed to be a luxurious end to our honneymoon in a hotel that’s normally way above our budget, turned out to be a huge disappointment. We should have just stayed at the more modest, but way better, accommodation of our first week.
To start with the positive: beautiful ambiance, rooms and view. Very nice pool and a beautiful little private beach with a stunning bay to swim in (although it’s not for everyone: don’t expect to just walk into the sea from the beach, you need to go down a ladder and cant stand anywhere). Some of the staff really try to make you feel welcome and at home (shoutout to the head waiter, the lady who assisted him in the breakfast room each morning and the people at the beach and pool bar).
That’s te problems start: it’s just some. For the biggest part of our stay, I didn’t feel welcome at all. This is mainly because the people don’t seem open to criticism, and for a hotel in this price range, there’s quite a lot to be critical about.
The first thing would be the absence of a road that actually reaches the hotel: whicever side you choose, the last part consists of a rough patch of earth and stones, with holes and steep slopes. This was actually the least accessible part of the island we visited during our entire stay on Zakynthos.
The rooms, while beautiful, are extremely noisy. For the better part of the day, you’ll have zero sun on your terrace. There’s a path of grass directly behind those terraces, so that at any time when you’re in your private pool or lounging on the terrace, you might be face to face with a stranger or someone from the staff. When checking into our rooms, we found the complementary little shower products to allready have been used, which feels kind of cheap for a place like this. For a hotel in this price range, I would expect the power to be in the details, which other – much less expensive – hotels have mastered way better.
The spa on which the hotel prides itself on its website is only half finished: the hammam room has hole in the wall and pipes poking out everywhere. Needless to say that it’s not operational, but still it’s advertised on the website.
This deceiving advertising extends to the menu, which was probably our biggest issue. The prices of the food are what you might expect from a place like this, but the quality sure isn’t. It’s all just allright, or even below average. We stopped eating in the hotel after we ordered a quesedilla with french fries, which turned out to be a (dry and stale) baquette smeared with some minced meat, a slice of cheese on the side, and four pieces of barely baked potatoes. When we pointed out that the menu clearly stated french fries and that this was actually the main reason for our order, the cook simply said “That’s how we do french fries, what’s your problem?”
All in all: this was our first time in a hotel in this range, to top of our honneymoon, but ended up being one big letdown in comparison to other, more reasonabaly priced, hotels.
I wish I could write a fully positive review, but I will start with the good. The hotel is beautifully designed in a beautiful location.
The road to it is a bone shaker, and not a pleasant start. The family running it were sitting by the entrance and seemed to laugh as we turned the tight corner to get into the car park. No help with luggage, no information in the room other than what the young man ( kind ) behind the desk gave us. No info on what number to phone to get reception.
The dining room seemed to be run by a different branch of the family. They had very little idea how to run a restaurant, starting with slow attention, warm white wine, and food which felt that it had not been prepared in their kitchen, but somewhere else, and re-heated. One evening the man of the family was making the rounds of all the tables, with families, including the male of the household, but managed to completely ignore the table with the two women (ours) . You could not put your meal on the room bill, but had to pay cash or card at the end of the meal, which was a very unusual way to run the dining room of a hotel .
Lastly, the wifi was appallingly bad, which is unacceptable today, when so many important things are done on line.
Re the pool , which is beautiful : for some reason there was a point early evening that loud music was switched on by someone, who then left – never to be seen again. There seemed to be no awareness that it might not be enjoyed by the only 2 people that were there.
It is a real shame, as so much of the hotel is good, but they need to give their staff some very good staff training, including the bosses !
