Wonderful to learn about the traditional and organic way of making wine on Ikaria; the grapes that thrive in this environment; the use of clay pots and the local granite stone in the wine making process and the impact this has on the quality of the wine; all fascinating: all explained in the most engaging manner by our guide. Beautiful setting.
Raw wine tasting last night with Konstantinos was just brilliant! Such an education and a lot of passion so that I now feel that this is all I want to drink!
Wine made by using ancient methods that were still being used up to 80 years ago, where people made a small batch of wine using very traditional methods for their own consumption, and these methods are being brought back to life by the family Afinanes and bottled for commercial use.
The wines are different to look at than the wines you would be used to. The whites are a little cloudy and some look more like an orange juice, the reds are clearer and less rouge, but look more like a dark rose.
They even have a sparkling wine that is kept under the sea in bottles for a year! 🥂
The lack of sulphites and the boosting qualities of the massive amount of bio cultures and antioxidants are one of the things that are missing from the main stream wines and are at the core of the things that Ikarians believe helps to give them longevity, with them being one of the longest living populations in the world.
I’ve not been drinking really since the 8th of April for several reasons, so was expecting to feel a bit rough today, but not even that tiredness that you get when you drink, and no inkling of a hangover at all!

Enjoyed my time here. I was in area so decided to check the winery out. Glad I did. The manager was welcoming, and even though I was on my own, she still gave me an excellent tour. Very informative and educational about the traditional style of winemaking. Worth the visit !
Wonderful winery in a picturesque location.
Great wines, great atmosphere.
Very beautiful place with friendly owners and amazing wines. We stopped here “spontaneously” but it was one of the best decision. These wines are more then just wines. It’s very tasteful and ikarians know why they call it medicine :). I just regret that I don’t have more space in my luggage to take home more bottles. It’s really spectacular liquid gold and – it’s biodynamic, made with care of nature and collaboration with local people. This is worthy to visit and drink!
