Today, we will embark on a journey through one of the island’s hidden gems—the Gioras Wood Medieval Mykonian Bakery. This charming bakery not only tantalizes your taste buds with traditional Greek desserts but also offers a unique glimpse into Mykonos’s culinary heritage.
Time-Honored Tradition Since 1420
Step back in time as you visit this family-owned bakery, which has been delighting locals and visitors alike since 1420. Imagine the same family perfecting their baking skills over centuries, offering recipes passed down through generations. The warmth and passion of the bakers resonate in every pastry they create. When you support Gioras Bakery, you are also supporting a piece of history that is beautifully preserved.
A Dessert Lover’s Paradise
From the moment you walk in, you’ll be greeted by an irresistible array of desserts that reflect the heart and soul of Greek culture. The selection is not just wide; it’s exquisite! You’ll find bite-sized offerings that are perfect for sharing, tasting, or simply indulging in every thoughtfully crafted sweet delight available.
A Sweet Sampling Adventure
With temptations like cheese pies, pomegranate pastries, and decadent baklava, how can you choose just one? A visitor named Jiyi Um raved about their experience sampling five mini desserts for just 6 euros! This affordability encourages you to try a variety, making it an unforgettable adventure for your taste buds. Jiyi particularly enjoyed the pie and pomegranate dessert—an inviting endorsement for fellow dessert enthusiasts.
Baklava: The Crown Jewel of Greek Sweets
Let’s give a special nod to the Baklava, often hailed as the bakery’s crowning glory. Ellen Campanelli pointed out the excellence of the pastries, drawing attention to the family’s dedication and the overall welcoming atmosphere. Don’t let this opportunity pass; indulging in a slice of baklava may just become the highlight of your Mykonos journey!
Cozy Ambiance That’s Different from the Rest
What sets Gioras Bakery apart is not just the food but also the ambiance. Zita Nánási beautifully described it as “so cute” and “cozy,” making it an inviting space to relax, sip some Greek coffee, and enjoy your desserts. It’s not just a bakery; it feels like a comforting part of home, providing a unique expression of the island’s warm hospitality.
Friendly Faces and Warm Welcome
While some reviews hinted at a need for improved service, others like Ellen and Zita shared how welcoming the atmosphere felt, particularly with the presence of charming employees. Meeting the old man who runs the place might just become your favorite part of the visit. At myocardialë Gioras, you aren’t just a customer—you are part of a long-standing tradition.
A Sweet Deal with a Few Caveats
It’s essential to be aware of the little quirks at Gioras Bakery. Some visitors shared their experiences with service fees and the occasional mix-up in orders—like receiving a cheese pie instead of a cheese spinach pie. However, these minor hurdles are often overshadowed by the delectable pastries and delightful flavors they offer.
Thoughtfully Priced Treats
Affordability remains a highlight for many visitors, as seen in Jiyi’s review. Whether you’re ordering one dessert or several to share, the prices are reasonable, making it easy to indulge without breaking the bank. Enjoying high-quality Greek pastries at such prices is a dream for many tourists!
Discovering New Flavors
Each visit to Gioras Bakery offers a chance to explore new flavors. As Jiyi noted, while some desserts may be sweeter than expected (like the orange pastry), this diversity in sweetness invites you to find your personal favorites. They offer a wide selection of traditional desserts. As most of them are in small sizes and affordably priced, I could get 5 bite-size desserts for 6 euros (cheese pie, pomegrante one, orange one, almond butter one, chocolate croissant). I really liked the pie and pomegrante, almond butter ones, but the orange one was extremely sweet.
Plus, It’ll be nice if they put names of desserts.
The only downside was that I ordered a cheese spinach pie but they gave me a cheese pie:(
The people there are not super friendly, but no complaints
Phenomenal baklava! I also got a small pistachio pastry which was excellent as well. Reasonable prices and a good selection!
They had a long line on the other day, so we have decided to visit here. Everything looks delicious, and yes they were. But service fee €1 per order is ridiculous(they also have a tip box in front of cashier… what a greedy store.) We ordered a few first and decided to order more if we liked them. And we lined up again to get some more, they again charged €1 even thought we already had a table sitting. The lady working here said it’s a service fee. Indeed, we already paid it previously, but she said if you don’t want to pay then take away. Good place to visit once. It’s enough.
The BEST place to eat Baklava, Kataifi or any traditional greek deserts!!! The place is so cute, it’s different from the rest of the town and thats because it’s so cozy. The old man there is the most precious person we have met during our holiday. Highly recommend it!!!❤️❤️❤️
